About our program:

Early Ecology Forest School is a all outdoor early childhood program. Forest Schools are an innovative approach to play-based learning in nature’s classroom.  Using local green spaces children’s whole beings are engaged in the natural inquiry of their surrounding environment, developing a healthy respect for themselves, one another and nature. 

Our program model is based on Esalen Institute’s Gazebo Park School outdoor early childhood program and Europe’s Forest Kindergarten tradition as well as using best practices in early childhood education. 

Our program is based in Oakland, CA

We believe that children are thoughtful, capable and hilarious.  During our programs children feel safe, respected and cherished while experiencing freedom, creativity and expanding their potential.

We know that the teachers are by far the most important aspect of our program’s success.

We are looking for teachers with excellent collaboration and communication skills and an exemplary work ethic. Teachers must have the ability to facilitate a curriculum that is responsive to children's evolving interests. 

Part Time Position

Start Date: Late August, 2019 & runs through the school year closely matching the Oakland School District calendar

Hours vary: approx. 20-25 hours per week. 


2 plus years working with 2-6 year old children, 12 units of child development college course work or equivalent experience, knowledge of local ecology and a love of working outdoors.

 Other valued skills :

Second language speaking, wilderness first aid, music and ability to play instruments, wild crafting, and primitive skills, parent education, mindfulness and positive communication.

 POC, LGBTQI encouraged to apply.


We are committed to paying our teachers highly competitive wages. Salary will be determined by education, experience, and position.
